Wonderful photo. I remember back in 1996 a wildfire (started by a train) almost destroyed our house but destroyed our barn. The flames were only two inches from the house when the fire department got there. Two huge pine trees near our house was chared, but they survived while many trees around us did not.

Artist's Description

This burning slash pine was part of a prescribed burn done at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Florida. Prescribed burns are performed to reduce the available fuel in the forests, thus reducing the intensity of any possible future wildfires. The pine lived.

Arthur Dodd

Art Dodd is a self-taught photographer currently living in South Florida who’s been photographing since 1975. Originally educated as an Electrical Engineer, he retired in 2010 to become a volunteer Florida Park Ranger at Jonathan Dickinson State Park. This gets him up close and personal with nature, one of his favorite subjects to photograph. He also enjoys travelling to and photographing other places. Various trips have taken him to places like Panama, Alaska, Maine, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, and others. In addition to nature photography, he photographs events for District 8 (South Florida) and the Palm Beach Sail and Power Squadron of the United States Power Squadrons and has had photographs published in many of their newsletters.
